Find Ekerö
The easiest way to get to Ekerö is by car or public transport. All bus lines from Brommaplan towards Ekerö pass Drottningholm and stop just outside Karamellan. See timetables and routes on SL's website.
Modern renovation behind preserved facade
In 2008, the Swedish Property Agency purchased Karamellan in order to renovate the building in collaboration with the Drottningholm Palace administration and the palace theatre. Karamellan is not classified as a listed building, but since the house is part of the protected environment outside Drottningholm, the Swedish Property Agency chose to preserve the exterior.
Internally, a major change was required to create a modern and accessible café & restaurant. To create space and light in the building, for example, the entire upper floor was removed. In addition to the café & restaurant, the building also houses Slottsboden, where you can buy souvenirs with a royal connection.

We are a popular excursion destination outside Stockholm - a quiet oasis close to the pulse of the city. Our café serves hot and cold drinks, pastries and sandwiches. During the summer months we open our outdoor terrace where we have room for three hundred guests so you don't have to crowd!
Under vintern 2016/2017 fick Karamellan fått ytterligare en ansiktslyftning.
En ny matsal, Orangeriet, har tillkommit liksom ett helt nytt restaurangkök. Världsarvet Drottningholm är ett mycket välbesökt turistmål och utbyggnaden fyller syftet att förbättra servicen för alla besökare. Orangeriet har även blivit ett populärt alternativ för de som vill ha sitt bröllop i slottsmiljö.
Det går även att boka Karamellan som festlokal vid exempelvis födelsedagar eller företagsevent.
